Welcome to the Knapton History Group‘s website

Join us on our journey as we explore the rich history of a small Norfolk village and its surrounding parish…

We hope you’ll enjoy rummaging through our archives, re-calling fond memories as you stumble over long-forgotten photographs and see familiar faces looking back at you from the past. Relax as we meet the people, visit the buildings, go to the places and then come to one of our events where we share our discoveries with everyone that wants to know what makes Knapton the magical place that it is today.

Using government data and church records, photos, drawings, interviews with parishioners (past and present), historical documents, 300yr old maps, archaeology reports, news articles, our “voices from the past” recordings and authentic Norfolk songs, we will try to build a picture of what life used to be like in our village, as we wind back the clock…

How to find stuff…

At the top of each page is a very powerful search button that should help you to find what you’re looking for.

At the top left of each page, immediately below the header, there is an indicator that tells you where you are within the site and it lets you step back one or more pages at a time.

Just below it, at the top of each page, there is a menu which lets you navigate to each of the main sections.

Clicking the menu item will take you to a landing page that’s dedicated to that section.

Please be aware that we may change these headers and menu items over time as the site develops.
