Village Car Park

The village has had a car park dating since 2000 when the Millennium Field was born. It’s fair to say that it was starting to show it’s age.

As part of the agreement reached between Victory Housing and Knapton Parish Council for the Wilds Way housing development, Victory Housing kindly agreed to build a new lockable car park on the site of the old one and pass title to it to the Parish Council.

Completed to a high standard with a safe pathway all round, nine car park spaces plus one disabled space and four bicycle racks, the car park was officially handed over to the Parish Council by Land Registry transfer on 5th April 2022. This document was signed on behalf of Knapton Parish Council by the Chair, Peter Neatherway and the Vice-Chair, Patrick Lee.

The car park is sited in Hall Lane, almost opposite Point Cottage, with vehicular and pedestrian access via School Close. This location makes it ideal suited for anyone attending a club or group meeting in the Village Hall and the council ensured that a safe pedestrian access was also provided opposite Point Cottage, which is itself sited next to the Village Hall.

The Parish Council then installed two signs, located at the entrance and the rear of the car park, which are both highly visible and make the terms of its use very clear. It also monitors it’s usage to encourage compliance with the Terms of Use as part of its commitment to maintain continual availability for the short-term parking of vehicles by visitors to Knapton and users of the Village Hall, and it welcomes any assistance from local residents in this regard.

Whilst able to be locked at any time without notice and at the sole discretion of the owners, the Parish Council, the car park has remained free and permanently open for its intended users thus far.
